The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and New Zealand were established on April 9, 1992.

From August 2014 till September 2018, the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Australia was concurrently accredited in New Zealand. In 2019 Ambassador of Belarus to Japan Mr. Ruslan Esin was appointed as a non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to New Zealand. He presented his credentials to Dame Patsy Reddy, the Governor-General of New Zealand, on November 12, 2019.

Ambassador of New Zealand to Russia Ms. Si'alei van Toor is designated as a non-resident Ambassador of New Zealand to Belarus.

In April 2012 Stuart Prior was appointed as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in New Zealand. In 2003-2006 he was the Ambassador of New Zealand to Russia.

In April 2014 Mr. Jim Bolger, the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of New Zealand, visited Belarus.

In February 2015 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Valentin Rybakov visited New Zealand to participate in the first round of political consultations between foreign ministries of the two countries.

In April 2017, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and New Zealand, foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged congratulatory letters.

In November 2018 the second round of bilateral consultations between foreign ministries was hosted in Minsk.
