About the visit to Fukushima Prefecture
26.04.2024On April 24, 2024, a working visit of the Charge d'Affaires of the Republic of Belarus in Japan, Evgeny Lavrinenko to Fukushima Prefecture.
On the eve of the 38th anniversary of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Belarusian diplomat visited the Memorial Museum of Japan's Great East Earthquake and Nuclear Accident in Futaba. The museum is located four kilometers from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, where a man-made disaster occurred in 2011 as a result of a strong earthquake and tsunami.
The museum houses photographs and documents describing life in the region before the disaster, the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, the onset of the nuclear accident and the evacuation of residents, as well as efforts to rebuild the affected areas.
During a conversation with the management of the museum, as well as eyewitnesses of 2011, E. Lavrinenko noted the importance of preserving the memory of the friendly assistance provided by the Japanese side in 1986 and the Belarusian side in 2011.
Evgeny Lavrinenko also visited the Fukushima Medical University and had a meeting with the vice-president of the university, holder of the Order of Francis Skaryna, Professor Shunichi Yamashita. We discussed the possibilities and prospects for cooperation between medical universities of Belarus and Japan.
