22.07.2021

On July 19, 2021, in the crypt of the Memorial Temple in honor of All Saints in Minsk a solemn ceremony to shelve capsules with soil from Hiroshima and Nagasaki was held. The two Japanese cities were the only ones in the world whose inhabitants became victims of the military use of nuclear weapons.

The event, organized at the initiative of the Embassy with the support of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Belarusian Cultural Center for Spiritual Revival, was attended by Archpriest Fyodor Povny, the Ambassador of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Yesin, representatives of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the Ministry of Culture, the National Archives and the Belarusian State University, as well as veterans-liquidators of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, students of gymnasium No. 19 in Minsk, which has repeatedly hosted Japanese schoolchildren, and Japanese citizens living in Belarus.

“Today a symbolic event for the Belarusian-Japanese relations took place. Belarusians and Japanese stand for peace and good relations. People in Belarus value friendship and preserve the memory of the victims of monstrous tragedies that should never be repeated, ”said Ruslan Yesin after the ceremony.
