Belarusian stork and Japanese crane – symbols of unbreakable friendship between the two nations
21.07.2022On July 21, 2022 Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Esin laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima.
After the ceremony, the diplomat answered questions of Japanese journalists who were interested in the level of current bilateral relations and Belarus' position on topical issues of international politics.
On the same day, the Ambassador met with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui. During the meeting, the diplomat noted that bilateral interregional contacts have noticeably expanded in recent years and a number of joint projects have been implemented.
The ambassador thanked the city authorities for approving in 2021 the transfer of the earth capsules from Hiroshima to the crypt of the Church of All Saints in Minsk.
During the meetings, Takuo Takigawa, director of the Hiroshima Peace Museum, received a book Chernobyl, and Tomoku Yanagi, director of the atomic bombing school, received a painting from the residents of Mogilev region.
On the eve of these events, the diplomat met with So Horie, an eyewitness to the tragic events of World War II, who shared his memories of life after the bombing.
At an extended meeting with members of the Hiroshima Peace Association the Ambassador spoke about the peace initiatives of the Belarusian side and the efforts made by our country to preserve security in the region.
At the end of the visit, the Ambassador left a note in the Hiroshima visitors' book in which he emphasized the importance of strengthening friendship between the Belarusian and Japanese peoples and the lifting of sanctions against Belarusian citizens and companies.
