During the meeting of the Ambassador of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Esin with the Mayor of the City of Shiroishi Y. Yamada and the management of the University of Sendai, as well as the Miyagi-Belarus Society on October 5, 2019, an agreement was reached on the establishment of a Belarusian fan zone during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. The sides also discussed the possibility of presenting the Belarusian theatrical art in Japan next autumn.

The City of Shiroishi is actively developing cooperation with the Republic of Belarus: in the summer of 2019, a delegation headed by Mayor Yamada visited the events of the II European Games in Minsk, after which Y.Yamada paid a visit to Nesvizh, where it was decided to establish cooperation between the two cities. In addition to Nesvizh, the Japanese politician also attended the investment forum “Success Mill” in Mogilev in 2018.

In spring 2019, the City of Shiroishi hosted a number of events within the Days of Belarusian Culture in Japan, and in summer 2020 the city will host Belarusian athletes participating in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, summer training sessions of Belarusian gymnasts have been held at the sports facilities in Shiroishi for several years already.
